PostArrayBot
PostArrayBot is how Post Array reads a website. It only visits an address when a person pastes it into Post Array, and it behaves like a polite visitor.
How it introduces itselfPostArrayBot/1.0 (+https://postarray.com/bot)
Who we are
Post Array helps people plan, approve and publish their social media posts. It is made by Dapols, and PostArrayBot belongs to us.
Why we visit
A person pastes their own website into Brand week, or into the free website-to-posts page. PostArrayBot reads it so we can learn what the business does and how it sounds, and then write posts in its voice. We do not visit sites on our own, we do not build a search index, and we do not collect addresses.
What we read
Only what a normal visitor can open without signing in, and no more than this:
- The homepage, plus at most 4 pages that look like About, Pricing, Services, Menu, Products or Contact.
- Up to 2 MB for each page. We stop after about 45 seconds in all.
- The words, colours, fonts and logos that are on the page, the way a visitor sees them.
- We never sign in, never send a form, and never add anything to an address.
We follow robots.txt
Before we read anything, PostArrayBot checks your robots.txt file and does what it says. If it asks tools like ours to stay away, we stop, and we tell the person who pasted the address that the site asked us not to read it.
To keep PostArrayBot out, add these two lines to your robots.txt:
User-agent: PostArrayBot
Disallow: /We never run scripts
We read the page as plain text. We do not run JavaScript and we do not open a browser. Besides the pages themselves, we read at most two style sheets, only to find your colours and fonts.
How often we visit
Once each time a person asks, and never on a schedule. We do not crawl a whole site. If the same address is pasted again within a day, the free preview shows the saved result instead of visiting again.
What we keep
We keep a short brand profile: the business name, a one line summary, its voice, what it offers, its colours and fonts, and the page each fact came from. We do not keep whole pages. A free preview is deleted after 24 hours.
Tell us if something is wrong
If PostArrayBot read something it should not have, or visited too often, write to support@postarray.com. Include your website address and we will look at it and write back. You can also block us any time with the robots.txt lines above.
