How LinkedIn counts a post

LinkedIn accepts 3,000 characters in the body of one post, measured in UTF-16 code units, so an emoji usually costs two. This page applies the same rule our connector applies before it sends a post.

A link costs exactly the characters it occupies, so a long URL costs more of the ceiling than a short one.

How does LinkedIn count a character?

By UTF-16 code unit, which is what a programming language usually reports as string length. Most emoji cost two, and some cost more. This page measures with the browser segmenter and then applies the LinkedIn rule on top.

Do links count against the LinkedIn limit?

Yes, at their real length. A URL costs the characters it occupies, the same as any other text.
